Those of you among my vast readership (currently numbering about one if my mother happens to drop by) who have an interest in Flash and Actionscript might perhaps have noticed the complete absence of anything Flash or AS-related on my blog lately. And I’m not surprised; I did, after all, include “Actionscripter” in the subtitle, possibly hinting at some vague relevance there. The reasons for this dearth are twofold: first the NDA I have with my company prevents me from saying anything too specific about what we do; second, and perhaps more important, I haven’t really had a lot of time outside of work and basic living to do lots of exploration into Flex, AIR, or anything else.

I suppose this is something in the nature of moving, and ties in really very tightly with why we chose to move in the first place. Life has a rhythm, be it staccato, vibrato, measured, syncopated or upbeat. And in the zone of comfort where we often choose to operate, that rhythm is warm and comforting — we know every note and rest, and we cloak ourselves in it like a favorite tune. Now we’re operating outside that rhythm. The notes come fast and we don’t always hit them (it’s almost as bad as watching me play Guitar Hero). But it is a new tune, and might even someday be a favorite.

Hmm…somehow this has meandered away from Actionscript altogether. Was that the point?

  1. Thanks for recommending Guitar Hero when you were with us at New Year. I got it as a birthday present and now apparently “I Rock”

  2. Bill, we have never for a minute doubted that “You Rock”.
